Last week, as a part of our Inclusion Project process, we added pronouns to our email signatures.
We are working to create a space where Two-Spirit, trans, and gender diverse people can access services, work, and volunteer, so it’s important that we don’t make assumptions about which pronouns people use based on appearance or names.
Using people’s correct pronouns is an important part of ensuring we are not erasing anyone’s identities, narratives, or experiences.
We acknowledge and honour that there are multiple genders and wish to avoid reinforcing the gender binary (the idea that there are only 2 genders) by defaulting to she/he pronouns.
We learned a lot from this great post from Opt (Options for Sexual Health). Take a look!
